Thrills and Adrenaline Rushes on the American River
Bond with other participants and your leaders on a thrilling raft trip down the Middle Fork of the American River. Whether you are an adventurous beginner or an experienced rafter, enjoy memorable rapids and pristine scenery in the heart of the Sierra foothills.
Trekking and Restoration in Yosemite National Park
Head south through California’s historic gold country to Yosemite National
Park. Admire the Park’s incredible rock formations and grand views on a
breathtaking hike. Then get a behind the scenes look of the National Park
Service with staff and assist with a meadow restoration project.
Caving and Service amongst Giant Sequoias
As we head north on Highway 49, get face to face with the world’s largest
trees (in volume): Giant Sequoias. Learn about one of nature’s oldest and
largest living things and help State Park rangers protect these mighty trees.
Then rope up and experience a hands-on caving expedition. Explore
caverns and passages and, if you like, descend into one of California’s
largest cave chambers!
Historical Folklore in the Sierra Foothills
Take a walkabout on one of the American River Conservancy’s most recent
land acquisitions: the Gold Hill Wakamatsu Ranch. The property marks the
first Japanese settlement on American soil and the gravesite of Okei San. The
park is not yet open to the public and is listed on the National Register of
Historic Places.
Then, on our last night together, we’ll finish our journey with a campout on the American River and dinner at a local outdoor restaurant.
